  • Haven't seen tabloid headlines for a couple of days.

Has anyone made any cracks about "Liam Fox Off!" or "Foxhunt" or anything?

  • when ed balls gets sacked, that will be a funny headline day

  • balls cut out

  • Balls Dropped

  • balls sacked, great balls of fired

  • castrat-Ed

  • The fact that the Tory right isn't accepting of homosexuals and Fox' consequential need to cover up his own sexuality is irrelevant. There are plenty of people in all walks of life who keep their sexuality secret for all sorts of reasons - they don't abuse their position in the way Fox has. Fox's presumed need to stay in the closet has absolutely nothing to do with his decision to take Werrity around the world with him on his own official business. Fox is well-known to be arrogant, a risk taker, loathe to take advice and prone to stick two fingers up at has Tory colleagues - his behaviour that has led to his downfall is a direct symptom of these traits.

People may well be reveling in the scandal, and the story of a Minister and a younger male "friend" may add spice, but it doesn't change the fact that Fox acted inappropriately given his role, chose to do so himself irrespective of his sexuality and Tory attitudes to it, lied about it and would have been quite rightly sacked had he not resigned. He would have suffered the same fate had the "friend" been female and he'd been unmarried.

I agree with this. My point (or agreement?) was simply that people seemed to be enjoying, and therefore perpetuating, the story because of "innuendos."

  • No, inYOURendos

  • Dalston?

  • Balls sucked for years, finally ejected.

    Guardian: Tory might be gay.

  • Those who do so with a lack of evidence, or against compelling evidence, are idiots. But that's a sweeping generalisation. Mistakes can happen: Thalidomide.

Nothing to do with the discussion here but it's the only thing I remember from chemistry so feel compelled to mention it. Thalidomide (Contegan) was/is a 'perfectly good drug' (hang on a second) depending on the racemic mix i.e. which isomer of the molecule was used. Can't remember which one was good and which one was bad but essentially the correct isomer did help morning sickness and didn't cause birth defects whereas the wrong isomer did all the damage. A case of ensuring your product is pure sort of thing (or getting conditions right to ensure the correct isomer was made).

That's all I learned during 4 years of chemistry. That and how to make TNT.

  • Balls cracked then sacked

    hur hur tres bien

  • which stereoisomer of the molecule was used. Can't remember which one was good and which one was bad but essentially the correct stereoisomer did help morning sickness and didn't cause birth defects whereas the wrong stereoisomer did all the damage. A case of ensuring your product is pure sort of thing (or getting conditions right to ensure the correct stereoisomer was made)

    A minor but important clarification.

The two stereoisomers of thalidomide are enantiomers, i.e. mirror image chiral forms.

A racemic mixture contains equal parts of both forms, and that was the problem. Typically, industrial synthesis doesn't select for a particular chirality of an enantiomer pair, whereas biological processes often do, due to the chiral nature of natural proteins. Natural proteins always having the same chirality - e.g. the helix of DNA is always right-handed

Thalidomide is not completely safe even when separated into the "safe" and "dangerous" enantiomers, because the human body can convert one into the other.

Fair enough. My point was just that blind faith in authority to do the right thing and not make mistakes is stupid. As is a belief that everything they do is mad and malevolent.

Better to remember that they're all human beings trying their best to do the right thing, and occasionally dropping a clanger. Like all of us.

And there's always that Steve from Essex who knows better...

  • The more this story rumbles on the more inclined I am to stroll on down there and toss a few home made patrol bombs on to those poorly decorated tin sheds they call homes.
You are travellers FFS! very few things make my blood boil but this hits all the buttons!

They bang on about honouring their way of life and living off the land like they mean it, i have had enough run ins with gypos and never once have they been anything but ignorant greedy thieves. as for those lefty do gooders in helping them! fuck me what a bunch of workshy middleclass pricks they are.. help the needy yeah! how about considering where else the money wasted on these pointless idiots could be spent? education, elderly...

    independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/dale-farm-travellers-promise-to-fight-eviction-as-final-appeal-fails-2372011.html

appealing to the european court.. i like it, thats given me an idea, i'll nip over to europe and grab a few italian police, greek armed services and turkish debt collectors and pop back to Essex on a quiet night to help you stinky fuckers pack..

    that is all

  • Racist.

  • *folds Daily mail and pens another letter to Essex MP

  • Greasy Slag - Couldn't agree more. It really does make me laugh they basically think they are above the law at the moment. My father in law owns some land which we can't get building permission on. These people are basically saying fuck it to these laws and building anyway. The laws are there for a reason. Work hard like everyone else you bastards.

  • Whoa, it's gone all Daily fucking Mail in here.

The thing is, regardless of whether you agree/like the occupants of Dale Farm, supporting their right for due process is a separate issue. I don't agree with the protests in the city at the moment, but I like the fact that it's possible to do that here.

One of my family was seriously considering working for Saddam Hussein's defence team. Not because they supported him, just because they believed in the importance of a fair trial.

As for the money... well money is wasted in lots of places, I'm not sure that in itself is an argument. Apparently, the new 50% rate of tax costs more to administer than it brings in.

  • greasy slag is nick ferrari aicmfp

  • Whoa, it's gone all Daily fucking Mail in here.

It's because all the right-wingers are actually at work, working hard. The lefty's are only just turning on the Wright Stuff.

  • Whoa, it's gone all Daily fucking Mail in here.

Two bus lane fines in 3 mins (no signs!) and a complete failure to sort out my health and safety check for my company by the council. plus a letter from family tax credits asking for money back after their mistake has got me on the bad foot. What a shit pile of mail to get on a monday morning.

This in the paper and my knowledge of the whole story was the proverbial straw.
