  • 250 squids?

  • I have a freezer full of squid that I'm cleaning tonight for dinner later!

I would but I'm not in a purchasing position at the mo.

  • what would you do and what bar would you choose? i mean, still with quill stem?

I ought to start a thread with a listing of 26.0 clamp compact bars, the question keeps coming up.

    Also...

    Deda Newton - Drop: 135 Reach:80
    Deda Piega - Drop:143 Reach:87
    Origin-8 Pro-lite compact handlebar Drop: 120 Reach: 70
Also ITM Super Italia pro 260 may be worth a look.

  • guys,

if you wanted to run one of these nice modern compact road bars with shallow drop and a "classic" drop curve (not ergo) on a quill-stem setup, what would you do and what bar would you choose? i mean, still with quill stem?
    thanks

FSA Omega (but oversized, maybe someone else was wondering though)
    google.co.uk/products/catalog?client=safari&rls=en&q=fsa+compact+bars&oe=UTF-8&redir_esc=&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=3289900533302633798&sa=X&ei=r8WeT-GEB-ak0AXzjJH4Dg&ved=0CHQQ8wIwAQ#ps-sellers

  • ^^ those two Deda bars look more like an ergo bend than a shallow compact curve, but the others are a good shout - not sure if the ITMs are still made though.

The Botranger ones are really good, like people have said, but I use a pair on Nitto B115AA bars, which are really nice, heres what they look like on me bike, but I don't know if this is what you are looking for.

  • Thinking about it, you need a shim for a road stem 26mm, and there are no cable grooves, they are in fact quite inferior if what you are after is mentioned above, but just incase its not...

  • Also ITM Super Italia pro 260 may be worth a look.

My ruler says drop 16cm, reach 11.5cm, roughly.

Not modern, but fits the bill. Reissue GdI: wiggle.co.uk/cinelli-giro-ditalia-64-alloy-handlebar/

    Expensive though.

  • I've got the Giros on my Mercian. I find them really comfy but, as mentioned above, they're a traditional shape

  • The Frame that shouldn't be, is continuing to be the Bike that shouldn't be, and now has got a new Wheelset and Seatpin....

Crying shame to wear those rims (dark brown Araya's) but plan is to fit some Chorus Skeleton Calipers, wrap up the bars....and then probably have to sell it, hah!... BUT, until that day comes, a nice summer SS to enjoy :)

  • Also ITM Super Italia pro 260 may be worth a look.

favourite bars, available in deep, shallow and anatomic, 25.8 clamp, up to 460 wide, grooved front and rear. frequently come up on teh bay for less than £20

  • awwwww... some people pay good $$$ to have those rims for their pista rides, but now you go and slam them with brakes on a "nice summer SS"... (((

    what are the levers please?

  • awwwww... some people pay good $$$ to have those rims for their pista rides.....

Hmmm, How "good" I wonder....maybe i'll rebuild them before the brakes come.

    ^
Record Carbon Levers, I believe Gleb

  • Yep, bought them from that^ man!

  • ^^^ that's well nice. Has the back rim got some kind of camo paintjob or is it just the photo?

No camo, just good old fashioned dirt.

Hobo why did you sell a Mash to buy a Vigorelli. .

[quote=Malaysian;2857468]Ha, funny that you've ended up with a vig. Nice build, really suits the black parts... does it ride pretty much the same as the Mash then?

This is far more comfortable than the Mash. My 30 commute is not causing my back any hassle anymore. It seems to be a lot more twitchy than the Mash, though this may because im no longer using the HED3.

  • Also ITM Super Italia pro 260 may be worth a look.

No Super Italias but Planet X have heaps of NOS ITM bars here.

I'm using some 140mm drop, 80mm reach Ergo Power TDF bars that fit the bill if you're after shallow and short bars.

I wouldn't buy old used 'bars from eBay. The 1st you'll know of their history will be when they fail.

  • Going to Herne Hill this Saturday for 1st track session since I was a teenager! So I built this up from stuff I had (wheels, bars, saddle, etc) and got a bog standard Dolan Precursa frame which seems pretty nice for the price.
Shall be making a fool of myself at the induction and bringing along a couple of mates to make sure I can't lie about how it went...

Maybe see some of you down there.

  • That looks great. Have fun.

You're stem of choice implies you eventually intend to go very, very fast.

    :)

  • Nope, stupid gorilla arms and long torso (= short legs) means much wind resistance :-( I'll give it a go though:-) Looking forward to it immensely.

  • Still it was a good idea going for the -17° stem, you have the option of going lower just by moving some spacers.

  • Thanks:-)
It's comfortable in the current position for over an hour so I'll see how I go and move down a spacer or two if it feels okay after a few sessions.
If I survive the 1st one...

  • Session 3 will be all about showing who's boss by bringing out the Old Guy Power!!!

  • Nice, thanks:-)
Think I missed on the testosterone and superior grit...
Am feck stupid and not bothered about losing though:-)
