  • The Rapha North Ride will be taking riders through north London via Regents Park, the short but steep climb up Swain’s Lane before making a loop around Alexander Palace. The 21.3 km route will finish in Highgate at the Red Lion & Sun. BBQ and drinks will be available to buy along with an outside space to leave your bike.

    Any one thinking in going?

  • I am definitely going. The course takes in the some of nicest parts of London (I'm not biased!) and finishes in a lovely pub right near my house which makes a change from East, West or South!

  • I'll take that one, it clashes with Westie drinks but means a shorter ride home which roughly equates to more drinking time and more hills...
    Where is the meeting point?

  • meeting point is smithfield meat market

i have put the route onto gmap pedometer

    gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1933619

for anyone who doesn't like hills, its is north so be warned

for anyone who likes a challenge come

for anyone who hasn't been north before this is a good route and will be a great ride

hope to see lots of you there

  • those aren't really what i'd call hills.

  • those aren't really what i'd call hills.

swains lane is a small hill but they are mainly only called hills to people who are used to the flatness of central london

and i'm not going to be riding with gears

  • On it!

  • I am working in London this Thursday, even though I am from the south I will be able to go to check out what the north has to offer and of course to meet some of you guys!

  • Swains lane is the steepest hill in london. it's a short blast bit it's steep for 200m at the top

I can't believe they are going around Muswell hill and not up it!

  • start time and starting point anyone?

  • Outside Coutts and Co, so the riders can take money out for the pub later.

as BMMF will attest, there are a few other steeper ones in surrounding suburbs ;)

  • Looking forward to this one. Hope the weather is nice. Just saw the 'pink theme' on the website. I have a bit of pink on my gillette ( or whatever its called ) that will have to do

True, but Swains Lane's the steepest within earshot of Bow Bells. It's only the hardest if you go for it from the bus stop down the bottom though. I still think Muswell Hill is the toughest psychologically, which is why I try to get up it in as close to 90 seconds as possible :p

I agree about Muswell Hill. Not the 90 second bit mind, but it being psychologically tougher. Fucker seems to just keep going!

think its cos you can see the top and the pinch at the end :(

I hate you all, you billy goat cnuts!

  • Are you coming tonight BMMF?

  • Are you coming tonight BMMF?

Nope. As it's the summer, and too warm for the turbo, I can fit in one midweek ride only for an hour or so after 7pm.

I went out last night (near, but not up Swains Lane) and picked up some cantis from DB. It was wet and windy, and a lot of drivers were getting too close for comfort :(

Have fun with the pink peloton.

  • The fear kicks in cause you know N10 is at the top of Muswell hill. slowing down could result in a stabbing of two flavours!

What time does this kick off?

  • at last.. i have magickd the interweb and found some more info. doesn't start untill 7:30 so time for a few west drinks up front

LOL there is NO WAY I would be able to have a few drinks and get up Swains lane. I would start to go backwards for sure!

  • good job Mike. i was planning to attach a line to you for a tow ;)

  • Yeah, but it will be full of bitter middle-aged men in skin-tight lycra on really expensive road bikes who hate everyone else on the road, including other cyclists.

I've been told that they're likely to fly off the handle at any vehicle that makes a slight error on the road.
